Wide Awake

Growing up listening to punk and alternative music, and then seeing how fans engage online, I would often see comments about how the artist “should’ve kept the politics out of the music” which I think is a ridiculous thing to say about a band called Rage Against the Machine. From Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”, musicians across all genres throughout history have utilized their position as artists to bring light to political issues.

WIDE AWAKE takes a look at artists in the present day that continue the long tradition of musicians utilizing their position for social and political change. From the Kendrick Lamar anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement to Country star Tyler Childers using his platform to share underrepresented stories, explore how artists today have carried the torch to advocate for change across a wide variety of genres and causes worthfighting for.
